I’ll be the first to admit I don’t know a whole heap about transnational corporations and their various divisions. I also don’t know a whole lot about how government subsidies to business operate, but when I was reading about a new contract signed by Bombardier to supply new skytrain cars, I thought, that’s good. Supporting a Canadian company.
Then I read the whole article. (Tip to readers: ALWAYS read entire articles from major media. It is mindblowing how much is often retracted or completely changed by the last few paragraphs of an article!) Bombardier’s international headquarters is in BERLIN!
I then thought, was all that I had heard over the last few years about the Canadian government subsidizing Bombardier to preserve Canadian jobs just smoke and mirrors? Was this really happening or not?
Well, according to this article by the Canadian Taxpayers’ Federation, this wasn’t a fairy tale.
Hence, I now pose the question: why is Canada subsidizing a multinational corporation based in Berlin with business in 60 different countries worldwide?

Why? Just ask yourself where their CANADIAN offices are located.

So then we’re bribing a multinational to keep a branch here in Canada? That is the only way Canada can compete is bribing companies to keep offices/factories here?
I think there is something seriously wrong if that is the case.
